First and Second Generation Canadians Counselling
Balancing Two Worlds
Growing up between two cultures can bring both richness and complexity. You might feel caught between family expectations and your own values, navigating different identities in different spaces. Balancing independence with family obligations, setting boundaries, and figuring out where you truly belong can be challenging—especially when feelings of guilt, pressure, or uncertainty arise.
This experience can impact relationships, career choices, and even your sense of self. Therapy offers a space to explore these challenges, process your emotions, and gain clarity on what you want for yourself—without feeling like you have to choose between cultures or disappoint those around you.

How I can Help
Through our sessions, we’ll work on:
Family dynamics and boundaries – Finding a balance between honoring family and building a life that feels right for you.
Cultural identity and belonging – Exploring who you are beyond external expectations.
Guilt and responsibility – Navigating feelings of obligation while making space for your own needs.
Relationships and communication – Addressing challenges that come up in friendships, dating, or long-term partnerships.
Life transitions and self-doubt – Building confidence in your decisions, whether in career, education, or personal growth.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Therapy can help you gain clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of self in a way that feels true to you.

Therapy Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We will identify and challenge internalized beliefs about success, family, and identity that may be causing stress.
Psychodynamic Therapy: We will explore how early experiences shape your current emotions, relationships, and self-perception.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): You will learn to manage stress and self-criticism by cultivating a mindful, present-focused approach to life.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Will help shift focus from struggles to strengths, helping you build practical steps toward the life you want.
These approaches work together to help you feel more at ease with your identity, relationships, and future.

Does My Insurance Cover Counselling?
If you have extended health care benefits (such as Blue Cross, Sun Life, or another provider), you likely have some coverage for counselling with a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm your specific coverage. Many providers list coverage details on their websites.
After each session, I’ll provide you with a receipt that includes all the necessary information for reimbursement, as required by your insurance provider.
